Welcome to Specialist Gynaecology Centres

Gynaecology Centres Australia founded the first centre to provide pregnancy termination services in Tasmania after abortion law reform in December 2001. In 2005 we formed Specialist Gynaecology Centres to provide the same PROCEDURES in Tasmania.

Traditional social attitudes founded on religious beliefs and maintained by those who wish to restrict the free choice of others, places a stigma on pregnancy termination. Our philosophy is to remove that stigma, by making the procedure as acceptable and respected as any other gynaecological operation.

The old approach......

Abortion clinics generally manage women in groups, with nurse counsellors processing patients before the operating doctor arrives to do the list of procedures. This low cost practice provides impersonal treatment, and leads to waiting rooms full of pregnant emotional women with their empathic families, resulting in “a bad experience” which contributes to the stigma that society is looking to place on abortion.

We are different......

We manage pregnancy termination like any other surgical procedure. This is achieved by providing individualised and personal treatment, in an environment designed to make you feel that you have not come to an abortion clinic. We have a non-judgmental attitude, and follow strict management protocols. Our professional standards are provided by a specialist gynaecologist.

We are the benchmark......

  • Individual management to avoid an abortion clinic atmosphere then by doctors not nurse counsellors
  • Professional standards and procedures provided by a consultant gynaecologist
  • Modern management protocols
  • A scientific approach not based on a tradition that has characterised this procedure
  • Discerning staff selected to promote sympathetic attitudes
  • 24 hour on-call advice and after care
  • And a low cost service
